In an era marked by rapid urbanization and environmental challenges, regenerative cities emerge, redefining contemporary urban planning to achieve carbon-neutral urban plans. This concept wishes to set new standards for reducing emissions and promoting environmentally friendly practices in cities.
Regen Maia is an urban development based on the regenerative city concept, balancing urban growth with environmental preservation in non-centralized areas. By first understanding the internal logic of the site and applying the scale constraints of the master plan, the goal is to create resilient urban environments and new infrastructures with slow circulation for cars and enjoyment for pedestrians, ensuring a harmonious coexistence between nature and human activities.
The iconic Lidador Tower, known as the "Isqueiro Building" in Maia, became a landmark in the city. With a 92-meter-tall, the tower is visible from the ten villages surrounding Maia. Building on this legacy, a new project aims to create another landmark for Maia on an 82,000 m² plot. Since building in height wasn’t an option, the challenge was to design a landmark with a horizontal structure.
The project redefines Maia’s skyline from the sky level, rethinking the 5th facade as a new circular neighborhood, creating a landmark seen from the clouds. This approach transforms a vacant green space into an integrated city that takes advantage of the topography and existing road infrastructure, fostering accessibility while maintaining ecological integrity.
