Quinta da Freixeira

It is estimated that by 2030, one in five people living in an urban environment will want to live in the countryside. So how can we enable a radically different out-of-town living experience that appeals to today's urban dwellers?

Lousa, a parish in the municipality of Loures where Quinta da Freixeira takes place, where a 55.000 m2 plot offers a revitalizing landmark for Loures, based on an environmental, ecological, and socially responsible concept.

Quinta da Freixeira project's main ambition is to generate a fair and inclusive community, while the urban environment offers a vibrant, safe, and friendly environment for all, while the proximity to nature ensures long-term well-being and freedom.

Based on 2 fundamental pillars - reduce emissions and promote quality of life on a neighborhood scale -, these pillars are interrelated and are the basis of the project throughout the life cycle of its development and operation.

Within the concept of "a city within 15 minutes", a mix of services, retail, and housing it's possible to respond locally to most daily requirements, in a short walk or by bike. The goal is to meet the needs of its residents, workers, and visitors by being able to create an environment and place that meets the contemporary demands of people and businesses, allowing the community to thrive.

From a social, economic, and environmental point of view, the project emphasizes the sense of community and circularity through a self-sufficient set involving and integrating its residents. The proposal is endowed with conviviality spaces from the most different to the most specific: different living areas, vegetable garden areas, informal exercise areas, and playgrounds are strategically located so that users with common interests can enjoy and share these spaces. The different service programs, such as a Senior Residence, a Continued Care Unit, and a Wellness Centre, offer new jobs, besides spaces with leisure, cultural, and educational options.

The project is certified by the LiderA system with a high-performance class in the pursuit of sustainability (A+), as the project guarantees the implementation of 8 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) defined by the United Nations.
