Inside an increasingly individualized living and segregated world, and it becomes urgent to amplify the sense of community and the integration of different social structures.
Through a balanced architectural solution and framed in the urban context, an open volume is proposed, in dialogue with the Sado River, given its proximity, maintaining the relationship of the place with the city, providing two main outdoor spaces with different levels, characteristics, and functions.
The sense of neighbourhood is increased by using private spaces that relate directly to public spaces. Since public space serves the needs of the community and personal space serves individual needs, the spaces shared between the two are read as transitional spaces.
In a total of 98 dwellings, sustainability and economic feasibility were crucial for the composition of the solution. The use of passive energy and environmental comfort techniques and the use of natural resources or local materials were also explored.
While the ground floor consists mainly of a glazing plane and concrete structural panels, the facades of the residential floors are made of a modular structure system in fibre cement sheets. All south, west and east-facing facades are complemented with balcony spaces that look over the river.
The modular structure of one of the volumes 'suffers' a 45º rotation, allowing better views of the Sado and better sun exposure. This change creates a clear difference in the living.
In both facades, the goal of relating to the exterior space is evident, to avoid enclosed environments, with little communication with the exterior.
