This project consists of a family house located in a well-known neighborhood called Hollywood Neighborhood (Bairro Guerra Junqueiro) in Campo Alegre, Porto. This neighborhood consists mostly of two-story townhouses, creating homogeneous and regular surroundings.

The existing plot currently has an indoor swimming pool that will be demolished. The plot, rectangular in shape, is narrow and long, with the peculiarity of having a party wall to the north. This was one of the challenges in designing the house.

How to make a difference in such a regular neighborhood?

This was the starting point of Bairro Hollywood House.

Due to the particularities of the plot, the solution for this project was to “lift” the house to free the ground floor to appear larger and to be surrounded by outdoor space. In this way, the interior and exterior spaces of the ground floor blend in with each other. The “lifted” part of the house is supported by two other volumes that connect the spaces vertically.
