Herdade da Barrosinha Masterplan

How can sustainable development initiatives be effectively intertwined with a profound respect for local identity?

The Barrosinha Agricultural Company's project is a comprehensive initiative covering around 2,000 hectares. The proposed master plan suggests dividing the property into nine Operational Management Units (UOPG), organized in concentric rings, incorporating provisions for tourism, residential areas, commercial zones, and recreational spaces. It aims to go beyond conventional construction practices by adopting a philosophy of coexistence, guided by the principle of "building without devastation." The overarching objective is to redefine the landscape of Herdade da Barrosinha, establishing a new identity deeply integrated with the local agro-forestry heritage. With a forward-looking perspective, this urban initiative seeks to make a substantial impact not only locally but also nationally, positioning Barrosinha as a cultural hub and a model for sustainable development and innovation.

As the proposal introduces a structured system that balances ecological preservation with community engagement, establishing green corridors to promote biodiversity and leisure activities, at the core of this project lies a strong responsibility to nature, reflected in a meticulous study that strives to balance human presence with utmost respect for the environment. The plot analysis linked both technical assessments inherent to such projects and a comprehensive emotional evaluation, delving into the essence of the site's memory. This holistic understanding informs strategic planning regarding conservation and intervention areas. The result is an architectural approach characterized by specificity, adaptability, and resilience, ensuring that interventions harmonize past, present, and future considerations.

Barrosinha Masterplan project underscores our design principles of environmental responsibility and respect for local identity in each development. We choose to build consciously, by preserving nature and promoting a responsible way of development.
