The project aims to equip Guimarães Castle with the necessary safety conditions for the visitors, as well as enduing it with small infra-structures which guarantee the access and the public flows.
Being in a context of high patrimonial value and difficult intervention, the project starts with to main assumptions: The first one related to the possibility of reversing the intervention and the second one associated with the idea that all elements should add its own identity, in a way that it should be always perceptible the difference between the new and the old.
Therefore, we decided to concentrate the intervention in a single volume that can shelter the entire program. This new volume is placed next to the Castle entrance, creating a second door, which allows controlling the visitors flow through the giftshop. This volume, also allows to access the Castle upper level.
