URBAN HILL

ABSTRACT The countertrend of the urban sprawl has been introducing the need of a specific research of innovation to mix a constant increase of functions and housing in the city.

CITY The volume of the intervention is the result of the process of merging the building with the main masterplan of jatkasaari and to improve the attractiveness of the area.

PROGRAM Even though our society still uses car as the main circulation vehicle, it is believed that in the future cars will perish, for which solutions has to be found to sustainably occupy the old mono functional buildings used solely to park cars.

TYPOLOGIES The blocks embrace diversity, encouraging a combination of building heights, typologies, configurations and uses. The result is a textured community where residents can choose to live how they please, top floors of the buildings offer the benefit of city views, while lower units have the advantage of a private garden.

CONSTRUCTION AND SUSTAINABILITY The site’s urban potential is maximized by the usage of common facade material in order to visually merge with the city landscape and, in the meanwhile, stand out thanks to their dynamic combination.
