LANDARK NATUREN PÅR VÅR SIDE

Building with nature not against it :

Kjøpmannsgata area is a key point in the city of Trondheim. Its history and natural resources make it a special spot, with a rich mix of uses and buildings. Despite it has some problems, such as lack of character and attractiveness of the spaces, excessive presence of cars, bad connections among the different elements, etc. it is a high value spot where not very invasive interventions are desirable.

The main interventions focus on recovering the historical relation that existed between the city and Nidelva river, as it used to happen in the past, when Kjøpmannsgata area hosted the port and the trade spots. One of the objectives is to respect the essence of the area, established by the Cicignons plan and to preserve the original cultural layers and vegetation, not modifying the current surface. In this sense, sustainable materials and techniques are used as well.
